I just tried to download Windows Media Player for Mac OS X, and something
called "Windows Media.sitx" got put on my desktop. I was assuming this was
the icon to click to install WMP, but all I get when I click it is a message
saying "There is no default application specified to open the document
"Windows Media.sitx". I'm new to Macs (and not all that computer-savvy in
general, as is probably quite obvious) and have no idea what to do next.
Help!

You need "Stuffit Expander" to decompress the file.
Get it (free) from:
<http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/index.html>

I feel a little silly now, since that was so easy, but thank you!
