When I try to play either wav or midi files in WMP v.10 or WMP v.11 I receive
the following message:
"Cannot play the file, the player might not support the file type or might
not support the codec that was used to compress the file".
1. Both WMP v.10 or WMP v.11 are configured to play all file types.
1. There is no problem in playing Audio CDs or DVDs in WMP v.10 or WMP v.11.
3. The wav or midi files are played without any problem with Real Player.

You're in the wrong newsgroup (this is for the Mac version of WMP).
Try reposting in microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player
