All of my videos (which played fine in WMP 9 yesterday) now start in color
for about 2 seconds, then turn gray -- about 90% opaque. It seems the problem
has occurred after the installation of Security Update for Windows 2000
(KB904706). Is that a  coincidence, or is there another problem?

I have installed every update for WMP9 and Windows 2000 since they were
installed on my system. I have made no changes to my video card settings, and
everything tests fine with the DXDIAG.exe test of my DirectX 9 installation.

Hummmm you're in microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player.mac (emphasis on
the last portion of the name of the newsgroup).

You should post in the Windows WMP newsgroups :-\
No idea what the solution is...

Thank you for your reply. I found a solution -- I think. It turns out that
the Hardware Acceleration for the Video Adapter -- when it was set to None
rather than Full -- solved the problem for two days. I just checked and the
setting has reverted to Full on its own. Videos still working as fine as
before. I have not been fiddling with the setting. But i do believe some
Windows update changed it back. Go figure?
