Windows media player keeps launching on its own

I have version 9 and it keeps launching on its own. I do not have a CD
loaded, and do not use media clips hardly at all. Please can anyone tell me
how I can stop media player interupting the work I am trying to do.

ZachD's website suggests this is computer-virus related :

That's assuming you've checked your StartUp folder and WMP hasn't been
added to that
