I have a 400 MHz g4 powerbook with 384 MB SDRAM and 25 GB of memory on
my hard disk. I am running Tiger.
I've downloaded Windows Media Player 9 for Mac, but when I double click
its icon, it doesn't respond. The icon shows up in the dock, but
nothing else happens. When I force quit, it says that the program
isn't responding.
Is there any cure for this?

Try repairing permissions. For OS 10.2+:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".
Try deleting the two preference files for Windows Media Player:
~/Library/Preferences/Windows Media Player Prefs
~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.mediaplayer.plist
("~" represents your user folder, usually located in /Users/<Your User>/)
