Hi everybody,

I am trying to download either flip for mac or windows media player for mac
and am having some problems. Everytime I click the download button, a window
pops up that says
"server not found". Has microsoft taken down the download link? Am I the
only one having this problem?

Thanks

The link on the flip4Mac site leads to this one:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx

(carteful about cariage returns in adresses: there should be the "px" at
the end of the link).

It leads to a second page with a download button.
I just tried and had no problem downloading the components.

Thank you corentin,

I am still getting the following error message each time I try:

Safari can't open the page
"http://download.microsoft.com/download/c/8/9/c8951314-e056-404a-8ea8-8744e42594a
a/WM%20Components%202.1.dmg
"
because it can't find the server "download.microsoft.com".

I clicked on the link you gave me:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx

I selected "download"  and was sent here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=915D874D-D747-4180-A400
-5F06B1B5E559&displaylang=en

I clicked download again and got the error message  that safari can't
find the server. I tried using firefox and had the same problem. If you
can get the program then the problem must be with my laptop.  Any
ideas????

Merci,
Susan

I just clicked on your link and the file downloaded immediately. This
looks to me like a problem with your DNS server :-\

Hopefully the problem will clear up by itself (when your DNS server
updates its base). If you have an alternate DNS server, you can try
setting it up as your primary one :-\

Thanks again Corentin,

I went to the Apple store to use their wireless network, clicked on the
link and it downloaded immediately. This might be a silly question, but
what is a "DNS" server. Is this the company that provides my internet
service? Or some other network?

Thanks,
Susan

DNS stands for Domain Name Server. That's the server that translates
www.apple.com into the IP address they are actually using. If the entry
in the server is wrong (or outdated), you get sent to the wrong address
and never manage to load the page.

The DNS you use is usually provided by your Internet Service Provider.
