I'm trying to install WMP 9 on a G4 PowerBook running OS 10.4.6. I had no
trouble downloading the installer and unstuffing it. However, when I run it,
it gets hung up in the "searching" stage and stops responding. The only
thing I can do to get out of it is force quit. I've tried downloading it in
two different formats, tried installing it at least half a dozen times, and
the same thing happens every time. Help! Any ideas about why this is
happening and how to prevent it?
I'm replying to my own post in case anyone else is having this problem on a
non-Intel Mac. I've given up on trying to install WMP 9. I downloaded
Flip4Mac's WMV Player instead. It installed perfectly and plays Windows
Media content just fine, at least on the one site I've tried it on so far.
Here's the download link:

Most of these issues are described on the FAQ:

Usually, trashing the pref and plist then repairing the Permissions gets
the app running again,
As long as you don;t have to deal with DRM, the Flip4Mac option is a
much better solution anyway,
