Buffer-Size Option(?)

Been trying to watch a video clip today and for some reason our network
connection has gotten a bit unreliable, so the stupid thing plays for ten
seconds, pauses for a few seconds while it rebuffers and then repeats. Very
irritating...

So I set the buffer-size in the preferences to buffer 30 seconds of data
instead of the default of ten and viola...! Nothing happens...  Still plays
for ten seconds before rebuffering.

Anyone know if the preference dialog box actually functions, or is it there
for future features :)  (I know the proxy setting works however)

Many such options in WMP are simply not functional (though I;'ve had
*some* succes with this one).
