Hi, I have a W2k server with shares and trying to connect the Mac to one of
the shares and I go to Connect to Server and it lists all the PCs in my
network and I select the one I wish to connect to and it asks me for a
domain/workgroup name, username and password.  Put in several and they all
comeback Error = -5023.  Any help would be appreciated thanx.

This sounds like your server is requiring digitally signed
communications. It's on by default in Windows 2003 server but I don't
believe it is enabled by default on Windows 2000 server.

Have a look at this MacOSXHints article

Hope this helps! bill

William,
Thanx for the response, actually since I posted this I have tried connecting
to an XP sp2 machine, a win98SE machine and a W2k3 server all with the exact
same result.  Immediately get a Error = -5023 on the Mac and no info about
what it means.

Found this a bit more information on the Apple support site:5023
afpUserNotAuth AFP User not authorized

It appears the client is trying to connect via afp which will always fail
unless you install SFM on the Server.  On the Mac you can force specify SMB
by entering the following at the connect to text box: smb://myserver or IP :
Example smb://192.168.1.1.
