.NET Framework SDK 1.1 will not install...

VPC 6.1.1, Guest OS is Windows 2000 Professional.

After selecting the installation options of "SDK, Samples and Documentation"
and clicking next the install hangs for awhile, then reports that you need
to install the "SDK" in order to install the other options. But "SDK" is
selected.

Thus, I cannot install the .NET SDK. Any suggestions?

I had this exact problem and ended up having to go to windows update
and select the 1.1 .NET framework from there (install it on its own)
and once that was done I could install the developers edition
