There is another option, although I haven't got VPC7 or a G5 to try it
on. This (a repost of something I posted about 3 weeks ago) is from
MacMinute.com ...
Microsoft confirms Virtual PC RAM issue; update coming
------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft has confirmed to MacMinute that its recently
released Virtual PC 7 will not work with Power Mac G5s
with more than 2GB of RAM installed. "Microsoft is aware
of this important issue, which will affect a small
percentage of customers, and has made it a high priority
to address as quickly as possible," a Microsoft
spokesperson told MacMinute. The software giant said
that an update to Virtual PC 7 is expected within the
coming weeks that will solve the problem. In the
meantime, Microsoft is recommending the following two
options as a workaround:
1) Remove a specific Mac OS Kernel Extension for
Virtual PC. The method for doing this is listed
below, but note that speed/performance will
decrease.
To remove kext:
* Quit VPC
* Open the /Library/Extensions folder
* Drag the virtualpcosservices.kext file out
to another location (like the Desktop or
Documents folder; DO NOT DELETE IT)
* Open the /Library/StartupItems folder and
remove the VirtualPCOSServices folder
* Restart the Mac
To restore/repair kext:
* The forthcoming update will automatically
reinstall kext should a user pursue this
option.
2) Remove RAM from the first four slots to below 2GB.

I can verify this solution does work for some people as it did the trick
for me. I have a dual G5 with 3GB and have had no major problems running
VPC since I tried this.

I tried this on my G5 with 6 GB of RAM and it did not work.

Which video card do you have in your machine just out of curiosity ?? What
size hard-drive do you have and available space ??

Hi
Does this problem effect machines with 2 Gig Ram or is 2 Gig the
maximum you can use ok.
(I ask because VPC is slow when set to 256, but slower still if you
set it to 512. This is on a dual 2GHz G5 with 1 Gig of Ram.)
We want to up the Ram to improve performance and stability as much as
possible - without running into the "too much Ram" problem. (Never
thought I would come across a problem associated with too much Ram!)
Thanks and thanks for all the previous replies to other posts.

As I understand it the problem crops up when you exceed 2GB of RAM. The
above solution did work for me but there is reportedly a performance
penalty to doing it this way.
