Copying from VPC7 to Mac programs?

Greetings,

I am going nuts on this one and I am sure I am missing something. Can
I copy text from VP7, to a Mac program? For example, I want to copy
text from Access into Excel. I want just copy the text in the memo
field. I can't figure out how to do it! Is it possible? I've searched
this newsgroup, help, etc. I have found references to going from Mac
to VP7 but not the other way.

FYI, when I select the command key from within VPC the 'copy' feature
is grayed out.

Also, am I supposed to do anything with the extra CD that comes with
VPC 7 that is labeled 'additional windows system files'? How do I
install it? I can't get VPC7 to recognize the CD/DVD drive. Is there
something on that CD that would help?

If it matters, I am running the latest version of OSX on a Powerbook
1.5.

Sorry for the newbie question!

Try Ctrl-C (the copy command for Windows) or going to the Windows "edit"
menu and selecting "copy".

Both Mac OS X and Windows-in-VPC share the same clipboard...or so it
would seem from my experience.

I thought the same would happen, or at least hoped, but it does not
happen. If I am in WordPad under VPC, highlight text, copy it, confirm
it is in clipboard by pasting it, and then commant-tab to a Mac
program, the item in the clipboard is the last thing I copies from the
Mac. The item I copied from VPC remains in clipboard only under VPC.

Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Try OS X shareware such as iPasteboard
http://www.brunoblondeau.com/ipasteboard/
It might have better functionality than the built in clipboard of OS X.

I just tried copying data from a Word Processor in VPC 7 and putting it
into TextEdit on my Mac and it worked just fine. I did a Edit - Copy in
VPC and then ran up TextEdit and did the Edit - Paste. It worked as
expected. Could it be the program you are using in VPC that is causing
the problem?

One more thing to add to this problem....

If I copy text from a Mac program, I can then paste it into a VPC
program by hitting the command button, and going to 'paste' on the
edit menu. I can't though highlight text, hold down the command key,
and select 'copy' though as that option is grayed out. Only the
'paste' option is available.

To put it another way.... WIthin a VPC program, command-V pastes from
the Mac clipboard. Ctrl-C will paste from the VPC clipboard. Control-C
will copy from the VPC clipboard. But, command-C will NOT copy from
within VPC. Instead, the highlighted text gets overtyped with a 'c'.

Help anyone?

Thanks!

I just tried an experiment between BBEdit in Mac OS X and Notepad in
Windows XP:

1) Copied "This is a test sentence from the Mac" using Command-C from
BBEdit.
2) Switch to Windows XP, paste using Ctrl-V (I could use Command-V, but
Ctrl-V is more "efficient" as it does it all at once, rather than doing
it character-by-character). Test sentence successfully pastes.
3) Select-all (Ctrl-A) and delete the sentence in notepad, replacing it
with "This is a test sentence from Windows". Ctrl-C it to copy.
4) Switch back to BBEdit in Mac OS X and paste using Command-V. The
second sentence successfully works.

VPC and Mac OS X share the Mac OS X clipboard. However, when operating
in a Windows environment you must condition yourself to use the Control,
rather than Command key for various tasks like copying and pasting.

As a Mac guy, I must admit that I've found it habitually challenging to
use the Control key after decades of Command-keying. You'll get used to
it, though.

Yep. You would just highlight the text on the PC and copy it (Ctrl-C),
and then on the Mac, you would paste (CMD-P).

This will only work if you have Virtual PC's VM additions installed in
the VM, however.

First of all, thanks to everyone for the suggestions!!

There is definitely a problem I can't figure out with my setup. I can't copy
from VPC to a Mac program! I do just as others have reported and get a
different result. Whenever I go back to the Mac, after copying in VPC, the
only thing in the clipboard is the last thing I copied in from the Mac side.
Any thoughts on troubleshooting? FYI, I have tried copying from multiple
programs in VPC including the text editor, WordPad, and IE.

The version of VPC 7 that I bought came with Widnows XP so Additions were
installed automatically. Might there be something I need to configure to get
it to work? I've tinkered but found nothing.

Again, all help is most appreciated!

I just went back and tried this again and I'm not seeing your issue. I
can:

1) Select text in Wordpad, Notepad, or MS Word, and then copy it
(CTRL-C in Windows, or right click and copy).
2) Take that same text, and via CMD-V, paste it into a Sticky Note,
BBDEdit, or MS Word for Mac.
3) The reverse is also true.

I encountered the same problem.  However, it no longer occurred after
rebooting my Mac.

Make sure VPC Additions is installed. If it is then it may be playing up
