Yes and no. Mostly yes. It's Windows XP, so therefore it requires
activation within 30 days. You could, theoretically, not activate and
just reinstall the drive image every 30 days to avoid activation. Why
you'd want to do that when you've paid for the copy of Windows that
came with it and are intitled to activate it, I've not a clue.
I have a similar question. I need VPC for the sole purpose of using MS
Project. I will export the gantt charts as pdfs to my Mac. I have no desire
to connect a Windows OS to the internet and expose myself to viruses so I
did not plan to have any internet connectivity for my windows. Is this not
feasible?

There are 2 ways to activate XP, via the Internet and telephone.

If you use the Shared Networking option, VPC can make outgoing
connections but can't receive incoming ones -- it's similar to being
behind a firewall. And I guess you could totally disable Windows's
networking -- uninstall the TCP/IP protocol on the network interface.

I just went into Device Manager and disabled the NIC for the profile.
Works like a champ. i don't want to connect to the internet with XP. If
I need a file I can DL it on the Mac side and put it in a shared folder.

There's a check box in the VM settings panel to enable/disable
ethernet in the VM as well, for what that's worth.

Just set the network adapter 1 in the VPC settings to not connected.
