I attempted to install SP to the XP Professional that I had running under
VPC, and it dumped the original XP install. I obtained SP2 from the online
update, and after 7 hours the update was complete, however the virtual
machine froze, and upon restarting the XP instance, I am now being prompted
for serial numbers, etc as if it were a completely new installation of XP.
I did this at work, so I do not have my serials but it doesn't look good; I
have a sinking feeling that it just dumped the OS. Once I can reload my
serial I will know for sure.
I'm not sure if there is a special version that should have been used for
the virtual PC, so if you're thinking about installing SP2 you might want to
do some more research. That is the plan for myself.

Make sure that you're running VPC 6.1.1 before you attempt to install
XP SP2. I can tell you, from personal experience, that there are
serious issues with installation and use of SP2 with versions of VPC
prior to 6.1.1.
