Before I decide to purchase Virtual PC- I need to know.....
If I buy software that indicates a Windows system requirement......
will I be able to install this and run it on my MAC if I have VPC
installed?
What are some advantages to having Virtual PC?

Depends on the system requirements. For example, programs or games
requiring accelerated 3D hardware support won't run under VPC.
What software do you want to run? You shouldn't consider VPC if
you're main platform is Windows, and you're going to do all your
computing in Windows. If you're going to run a couple Windows apps
and that all, VPC should work.

It allows you to run many Windows apps on a Mac.

Steve Jain has basically answered your question, but the way you've
worded it makes me think you're under a bit of confusion.
You don't "install {Windows software} and run it on your Mac" as such.
VirtualPC is simply a Mac application that emulates (pretends to be) a
Windows computer, so you have to first run VPC, then install the
Windows software on this "pretend" Windows computer, not the Mac
itself. This of course means you suffer all the same problems that
installing software on a real Windows computer often has. :o\
