I am a fairly new MAC OS X Tiger user. I have Microsoft office 2004
installed along with XP Pro. using Parallels software. If I do a letter
using Word or a spreadsheet using Excel from Microsoft Office, save either
of them in the documents folder and go to that folder and try to open them
again Parallels opens XP Pro. and my old works programs. Parallels doesn't
open XP if I load the Word or Excel program and then do a File Open and use
finder to locate the document or spreadsheet.
I would much prefer to open documents or spreadsheets by just clicking and
having them open the applications. Could anyone tell me if there is a way
to force it to work this way.
As soon as I feel confident with the MAC software and have everything
transferred over I had intended to remove Parallels and XP. If there isn't
a way to force the system to work the way I want, I wonder what would happen
if I get rid of Parallels and XP.

A better place to ask is the Parallels Forum

This one is for Microsoft Virtual PC.

Sorry I asked in the wrong place.

In the Mac OS Finder, single-click on a Word document that is opening
in the wrong application and then hold down the Apple key and press the
letter I key. (Note: "Apple" is also called Command, Splat, Daisy and
numerous other names - it's the key next to the space bar that is not
Option or Control.)
You will get a window that displays information about that file.
Towards the bottom is an "Open With" section where you can pick what
application opens that file / type of file. You can change it to use
the Mac version of Word, making sure to "Change All".
Repeat the process for an Excel document.
That should fix the problem, unless Parallels is doing something
peculiar to intercept the Mac Finder's "open file" functions.

Thank you Harry. Your answer worked and I appreciate your answering even
though I asked the question in the wrong place.
