I have a brand new MacBook Pro and I received a Microsoft Office bundle pack from my school. Included in this pack was Virtual PC v.7, which I proceeded to install. After a generally brief installation, the program attempted to open the application. It died before it could open. Concerned, I tried to open it from my applications. It died again. No error message, just the usual 'your program died, reopen or not etc' window. I uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted and tried and tried everything I could think of, but to no avail. What the hell is wrong with this program> How can I make it work without spending money on having someone make it work for me? Well, VPC for Macintosh is for PPC Macintosh systems only. Your MacBook Pro is Intel-based and VPC won't run on it. I think including Office and VPC together was some smart-a.s M$ marketing person's idea of "synergy". Especially when the version of Office you have runs in Rosetta's PPC emulation rather than natively on Intel. The next release of Office due next year will probably fix that. But it's only a word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation package, so you aren't really stressing out your system much. Bottom line, trash VPC. It won't work on your system. Sooo wished that I'd read your message before buying VPC for my new iMac. At least now I wont spend ages trying to get it to work. Thanks anyway. It is driving me crazy, and doesn't work anyway. I have VPC 7 and am using Windows XP that came with it. It was all working yesterday, so I don't know what has happened. I have used Disk Warrior, reset PRAM, etc. Maybe it wasn't made to work with Tiger. Arraugh. Mike meabrams@earthlink.net Sounds like something in Windows got corrupted. As soon as you start booting into Windows press F8 key a couple of times and try and boot into Safe Mode in Windows. If you are able to try and run ScanDisk and see if it finds any errors. The issues you are having are solely on the Windows side and Disk Warrior and resetting PRAM will make no difference to Windows. Worse case if you can not get it resolved you may have to install Windows XP from scratch. Choose Last Known Good Configuration. This may get you going without doing anything drastic. If F10 isn't right, then try F2 or Del. If you can get in via Save Mode and XP has System Restore turned on you can choose a restore point from the calendar in the utility to restore back to. System Restore can be found at Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore If it is turned on you can use it to roll back to one of many previous working configurations.
