Has anyone tried the QEMU open source X86 emulator?
http://www.qemu.org/

BTW it now appears to be called Q.

There is the related FreeOSZoo:

-60 OS Images.  No Windows, just the free ones.

Why would you want to emulate x86 if you don't have to? , i.e. I would
rather virtualize on an Intel Mac.

Yes, on a PPC Mac, QEMU is an alternative to VPC, but IMO, VPC is much
more polished.

There are a few different shareware / freeware PC emulators for the
Mac, but they're all more difficult to set-up then Virtual PC becuase
they're created by "geeks" for "geeks" so require playing with all
sorts of settings. They also tend to be less compatible than Virtual
PC, but can be marginally faster.

Well there are commercial products that use QEMU with nice GUI front ends.

http://www.openosx.com/wintel/index.html
http://www.iemulator.com/

I've not used OpenOSX since then went from BOCHS to QEMU.  I have the latest
iEmulator and it works pretty good.  And for about $20 it's not that bad a
price either.

Have you tried any of them?  IYO which is better?
I have VPC 7 /XP Pro, but thought I'd try on of these out of interest.

Well I posted a response similar to a this a week or two ago but don't know
how to reference a link back to this with testing and possibly wasting a lot
of bandwidth so here's my response from a little while back.

But having said that VPC 7.02 does the best job speed wise and is more
polished all the way around.

I'm still using Mac OS 9, so I haven't used any of the newer software
... in fact I'm still using Virtual PC 3 quite happily.  :o)

Yes I agree of all the emulators out there VPC 7.02 is the best in almost
all aspects.
