Cannot print to Ethernet printer (Lexmark z65)

Since upgrading to Tiger (a good long time ago) printing from Virtual
PC 7.02 has been flakey.

I rarely use printing (fortunately) as I only use VPC for Quickbooks
now and only use printing from VPC when I want to do a cheque run.
The last few months I have been just writing out the cheques by hand
since printing has now stopped altogether.

I have an Ethernet-connected printer, a Lexmark z65.  When printing
worked I used the VM Additions printer.  Now when I print to the VM
printer, it seems to print OK except that nothing actually happens.

Reading a few different support articles, I have now tried Virtual
Switch networking - I used to use Shared Networking.  I also tried to
set up the printer as a "regular" printer from within VPC.  The VPC
saw no printer online anyway - and not being a Windows user I found
the instructions completely mysterious.

I did try several different things based on what I understood, but
achieved not even a single printed sheet.

Anyone else running into this?  Have you found a way around it?

Go to PC/PC Settings in the VPC menu bar. Go down to Printing. Does it
show your printer next to Printing? If not, click on Printing. On the
right side, choose 'A specific printer' and select your printer in the
drop down list. Then try printing with the VM Additions printer. If
that does not work, update the VM Additions (Go to PC in the menu bar
and click on 'Install or Update Additions'
