No, you can't use the version of Windows that comes with VirtualPC.
Even if it was technically possible, it would still be illegal to do so
anyway.

If you have very recently bought VirtualPC, then you may be able to
return it and get your money back.

If you bought VirtualPC a while back then try re-selling it on eBay.

Also, since you're going to have to buy a new version of Windows, you
need to be aware that it's also illegal to use the cheaper versions of
Vista with virtualisation software like Parallels or VMWare (there's no
problem using it with Boot Camp).

Yes:   http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/transporter/

It still violates the license.

my problem now seems to be my intel mac which wont run vpc anymore. i
see windows in a zip archive on the 2nd installation disc
but when i try to extract it something very wrong happens-it
disappears!

It needs to be installed by VPC, which unfortunately is not Intel compatible
and does not run under Rosetta either.  Since you are unable to install VPC
you also cannot install Windows.

The second disk is not a standard Windows installation disk.  To install on
an Intel Mac you need to install using Boot Camp assistant or Parallels and
for Boot Camp 1.2 you need an XP SP2 or Vista full edition.

thanks for the advice. i'm still just a little confused by your 2nd
paragraph. it sounds as though you have said i cant use this windows
program i own that came with vpc. yes?

in p'graph 2 are you saying how i can have a windows program but just
not the one i own?
if so, i thank you but i knew that. i dont want to buy another! i
never used the one i have except for one app i rarely use. :)

The Windows distribution that comes on VPC Disk 2 isn't a real Windows
Install disk.  It's formatted to be a VPC Virtual Machine disk and can
only be accessed by VPC.  I've heard that if you have an existing
installation of VPC on a PPC machine, you can copy this VPC Virtural
Machine to an Intel Mac (an exercise left to the reader) and use a
Parallels or Bootcamp tool to extract the information from this file.

If you don't already have the file, you're out of luck.  Buy a
commercial copy of Windows and sell your VPC version on eBay.

These aren't the droids you're looking for.  Move on...

Correct.  You can only use the Windows bundled with VPC in a virtual machine
running under VPC.  Since VPC only runs on a PPC Mac, it follows that you
cannot use the bundled Windows on an Intel Mac.  If you had used a retail
copy of Windows with VPC you could easily transfer that copy of Windows to
an Intel Mac.  The money you saved by buying the bundled Windows instead of
just VPC and a retail copy of Windows also restricted your usage of the
software.  Keep in mind that you did not buy Windows but a license to use
Windows.  The kind of license you bought is not transferrable and the way
the bundle is constructed it is also not technically possible to work around
it.

You do not "own" any version of Windows. Microsoft owns EVERY copy of
Windows that exists. (In fact, you don't own probably any of the
software you use.)

You bought a license to allow you to use that version of Windows with
Virtual PC, and ONLY VirtualPC. If you want to use Windows with any
other product (Parallels, BootCamp or any Intel/AMD PC) then you have
to buy another license.
