Mac Forum / Applications / Virtual PC / April 2007trouble installing win XP from VPC 7.02
I installed VPC 7.0 w/Win XP Pro then upgraded to 7.02 during install of disks it says "installing windows" after finished a black screen with Windows XP Professional on top of screen (not in screen) pops up . At this point I am supposed to configure windows but there is no START button at bottom left in fact it's just a blank black screen. Depending on whether VPC came bundled with XP makes a difference on how to install and which set of directions to follow. Still no Windows ! During installation where you get to setup assistant and configure windows it says CLICK Start Windows! After I do that a blank black screen appears. At this point I am able to do NOTHING in the window. How do I get windows to work ? Lorne In your first post you mention inserting a CD, rebooting, etc. That won't work with the Windows thats included with VPC. You can't manually install it. Windows is already preinstalled and should just get copied over when you do an install of VPC. I no longer have a Mac setup so I can't give you exact directions, sorry. If you can't get it resolved before the weekend, I'll see if I can get my mini hooked up. A while back there were some similar posts about installation problems, and IIRC, the solution was to not restart the Mac when prompted by VPC, but continue the installation. At some point during the installation you should get a prompt for the next CD. If the install goes correctly, it will copy Windows and set it up in the VPC List. I reinstalled twice, eliminated VPC 6 I had, etc.; nothing seems to work. I´ve got 3 disks on the box but installation process only requested 2; the one labeled "Additional Windows System Files" was never used. It does not contain any applications or additional features that you could use. It is meant for installing certain hardware I have done no progress ! Still stuck with the XP installation. The indication about the 3rd disk is irelevant at this stage. Is there no other suggestion ?
