I am trying to run a geotech drilling software suite on my g4 powerbook
over virtual pc 7.0.2 The app relies on an Aladdin USB key hasp that
neither my mac nor XP is able to see. The red LED lights up on the
hasp, but I'm just guessing that it's getting bus power.
The software company included a key hasp driver installation script
which seems to stall over a VDM/virtual machine issue. In lieu of
that, I used the command line driver installer which seemed to work.
However, after all of this, I'm still not able to run my drilling
software. Are there any other drivers or OS tweaks that I need to do?
Please share any of your relevant experiences.

VPC's USB support is "spotty" at best. It works with various 1.1
devices but there's no support for USB 2.0 at all. Usually we see USB
complaints with phones or GPS devices, but a USB key dongle is a new
one. If neither MacOS nor VPC "see" it, you're probably totally out of
luck.
Your best bet is to go with a cheap PC laptop, that way there's no
Macintosh issues. If you have money to throw at the problem, try a
MacPro laptop. It might work.

In the VPC menu bar, go to 'PC' and select PC Settings. Click on USB.
Is there a checkmark beside your device?

OK, here's an update.
I'm suspecting that the Performance Drilling software is rather fluky.
I was able to download and install the HASP HL driver for my USB key
for both OS X and XP. I can see it now as a mounted BSD device and in
the Virtual PC USB devices window. The red hasp LED now lights up when
plugged in.
Still no dice on the drilling software authentication subapp. It
doesn't even open now. I opened a trouble case with the developer. I
should just program my own app.
Kind Regards to all and Merry Christmas

HASP USB devices are not supported under Virtual PC nor Virtual Server 2005.
HASP Parallel Devices are supported on Guest Systems where Virtual Machine Additions are not installed.
(HASP drivers directly conflict with Virtual Machine Additions and will cause the Guest System to crash at logon).
