How do I set up file sharing so that I can see large (> 4 GB) OSX files
on my Virtual PC [v. 7.0.2]?
I cannot access the entirety of my large (shared) files using Virtual
PC. My virtual disk is FAT32, so I'd expect this 4GB restriction on the
VPC virtual disk, but when I share my host (Mac OS Extended, HFS+), I
should be able to see > 4 GB files from the VPC.
What happens is that the VPC sees all file sizes on the shared FS as
their true size modulo 4 GB -- i.e., 4.5 Gig files are 0.5 G, 6 Gig
files are seen as 2 Gig, etc.
This is obviously should not happen.
Can anyone suggest a fix/workaround?

What happens if you setup a Samba share? Can you "see" the file then?
[check the man pages on samba if you don't know how to do this or you
could buy a Samba book on the O'Reilley site]

Why would you expect this? Just because they are Mac OS Extended or
HFS+ format, you are still trying to access them from Windows so
Windows rules still apply. BTW, you would not be able to do anything
with them in VPC anyway. I reaaly don't understand what exactly you're
trying to do. Would you care to explain in more detail?

This is exactly what should happen.

There is none.

What's your host OS X version?
What's your guest OS and version?
I'm running OS X 10.4.8 and Windows XP SP2 and by using OS X SMB sharing
over bridged networking. I've mounted my home directory
(smb://host_ip/username) and I see a 10 GB file perfectly.
I also know writing 10 GB works because I created that file from my
Guest OS over SMB.
The file shows 10,485,760 KB

That's through SMB, not via a shared folder, which I think, is what the
OP was complaining about. So SMB does work for this? That's good to
know. Guess the OP will need to set that up on their MacOS X system.

Yes, I meant to say "use OS X Windows Sharing (SMB) instead of VPC
Shared folders" as a workaround.

Yes, the Samba / OS X Windows Sharing workaround works fine -- large
files are all visible through Samba. Thanks to everyone who suggested
this.
This smells like a bug in Microsoft's Virtual PC sharing software.

P.S. for record keeping. This is OS X 10.4.8, Mac VPC 7.0.2, and
Windows XP SP2.
