Memory allocation to Virtual Machine

Virtual PC 7.0.2 with Windows XP seems to allocate only 256 MB or RAM
to the VM. Is this sufficient or should I increase it. And if so, by
how much.

My computer has a total of 768 MB of RAM.

256MB is plenty.
