I am a new Mac user and recently bought a new macbook with the Intel
Core Duo, I tried to install Virtual PC onto my computer and after the
initial restart an alert appeared saying that the program unexpectedly
closed and I could not successfully reopen it. Any suggestions?

Virtual PC is not compatible with Intel Mac's.  There is nothing you
can do to get VPC 7 to run on an Intel Mac.  You should return Virtual
PC.

I do not work for Microsoft.

Return your computer for a full refund and buy a G4/G5 system instead.
VPC won't run on your system.  Microsoft hasn't announced any date when
it will.

Or just return VPC to Microsoft for a full refund and keep the MacBook.
Buy a copy of Windows XP (the XP in VPC won't install on a MacBook).
Install BootCamp or Parallels and run them instead.

To add to Steve's comment, while Rosetta (the emulation layer that allows
PPC based software to run on Intel) is effective with a lot of programs,
Microsoft has stated that VPC does not run under Rosetta.  Microsoft most
likely will release an edition of VPC for the intel based OSX, but that
appears to be a ways in the future still.
