Can I recover data from "corrupt saved state"?

I am running VPC 7.0.2 on a G5 with Mac OS 10.4.6.

Today when I tried to load VPC I received a dialogue box with the following
message:

"The PC could not be restored because the saved state was either corrupt or
incompatible with this version of Virtual PC for Mac."

I haven't updated versions so I assume the problem is corruption.

I have reinstalled Windows (I guess more accurately created a new machine.)
What I want however is my data!  Is it gone forever?  When I browse through
the Mac OS I can see the original "Windows XP Professional" in my Virtual PC
list.  I can also see in my toolbar "start menu" a hierchical listing of all
the files. There's really only one relatively small database file I need.  I
just don't know how to get to it if it's even possible.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks.

Hi Tim,

Open the Virtual PC List window and you should see both virtual
machines.
Highlight the corrupt one and click on settings.
In the settings list, highlight Drive 1, and on the left you will see
the option to "mount drive now".

This will place a white drive icon on the Mac desktop (called no name).

Open this drive and you may be able to recover your files.

Hope this helps,

Iris

An easier way to do things is to Control Click on the original virtual
machine and select 'Show package contents'. Then remove the savedstate
file. Start Windows normally.

Huge!

I am so grateful.  It worked, I'm in and nothing is lost.  I can't tell you
what good news that is to me.  I'm naming my next kid Paul Linganiris.

Many thanks.
