I have never had problems accessing the Internet from Virtual PC 5, 6,
or 7 until recently.  When OSX update 10.4.6 downloaded onto my
computer, all of a sudden I could no longer access the Internet from
Virtual PC 7. I've tried reformatting my Mac's hard drive.  I've
reinstalled Windows onto Virtual PC.  I've tried not allowing automatic
updates to happen so that the version of 10.4 that came with my Power
Mac is all that's on there.  This gives me access to the Internet for a
little while, but it suddenly stops as I start updating my computer.  I
called Apple Support.  They say it's a problem with Virtual PC.
Microsoft wants $35.00 to tell them about this problem.

Why does Microsoft ask for $35? Do you have a legal version of VPC 7?
Even though I am using it at work, they were helping me for free like
an individual customer. Try calling 866-474-4882, this is VPC tech
support number. They will definitely help.

Cheers,
Sergey

Thanks.  I'll try that number.  When I went to the Virtual PC support
page, I found that one could get email support or phone support at
$35.00 per incident.  My copy is legal.

VPC provides 2 free support incidents. After that, it's $35 per incident

Thanks so much for the heads up.  I called today.  The support rep
helped me "turbocharge" the Internet connection.  To do this, she had
me go to Internet Connections, Local Area Connection, and  put in the
following DNS server for Windows to use:

4.2.2.2

This is as opposed to letting Windows find a DNS server.  It works both
for ethernet and for airport.  It works for shared networking and for
virtual switch.
