Hello! I really need help with this particular program :( Yesterday, It

was working just fine. Last night, I just added a user in the accounts
then updated the mac os update. everything after that went haywire :(
Everytime i try to run the VPC, it would give me errors like "OS not
found...install an OS on this hard drive" and "Reboot and select proper

boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" :(

I really dont understand whats going on since it was working perfectly
fine yesterday :( Everytime i go to the PC settings to select from the
virtual PC list...all selections are gray :(

Btw, i have a G4 OS 10.4.5 now :( I also did the disk repair utility
thing...but still didnt work :(

i was able to run xp on VPC on another user's account but heres the
thing... it gave me another error..Windows-delayed write
failed-"windows was unable to save all the data for the file c:. The
data has been lost. The errors may be caused by a failure of your
computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file
elsewhere."....meaning??? :) sorry...im really not a techy not to
mention the fact that i am so used to PCs :(

Another error is this... Isass.exe-system error
an I/O operation initiatedby the registry failed unrecoverably. The
registry could not read in, or write out, or flush one of the files
that contain the system's image of the registry."

Also, I have 2 different files of WinXP pro.vpc7 that contains
different sizes...1 is 2.34GB on disk and the other has the same file
name but is only 3.3 MB in size....??

Another error just came out as well..."the primary disk image could not
be written to. he image file may be locked. The disk has been mounted
read-only. Most operating systems cannot boot with a read-only primary
disk."

How can all this go wrong just by installing the update of VPC? :((

Please help!

It was probably coincidental. Errors referring to the hard disk in VPC can be
a sign of SMART failure on the physical hard disk - check it out with Apple
Disk Utility, and note the SMART status.

Actually, from the information given, I believe this is a fairly common
problem.

You say that you created a new user account on the Mac side? If so, you
are probably logged in as that user and cannot even see a virtual
machine when you launch VPC. That's because the other user account
created the virtual machine. If you log in to the original user
account, you should be able to launch VPC and start Windows.

I have the same problem (disk mounted as read-only) when trying to open
VPS from another account. But the Windows file is in the Shared and
I've set all permissions to read & write (even inside the actual vpc
package. What gives? Why can't I access the machine from a different
account?

While signed in to the Administrator Account

1. Install virtual pc on the admistrator account and create the virtual

machine(Guest operating system)
2. When this is finished quit virtual pc and make sure the guest
operating system
is in a "not running" state.
3. Navigate to the virtual pc list folder on the
mac.(harddisk->users->user you are
working with->documents->virtual pc list)
4. Locate the virtual machine you have created and drag it to the
shared
folder(hardisk->users->shared)
5. Now we need to change permissions on the file itself. Ctrl+Click on
the VM and
select Get Info
6. In the window that comes up look for ownership and permissions and
click the
arrow pointing to the right
7. This will show you what permissions you have which should be read
and write.
Below that there should be another arrow pointing the right that says
details
8. Click the arrow and at the bottom it should say others.  Click the
drop down
arrow next to it change it to Read and Write.
9. In some cases you may have to change the permissions on the
basedrive file
located within the VM
10. Changing permissions on this file is the same as changing it for
the VM
itself.(To access this file ctrl+click on the VM and show package
contents.(The
file is usually named Disk1 or it may be the name of the operating
system)
11. Now we need to make an alias(shortcut) for the Vm and place in the
virtual pc
list folder.
12. To do this ctrl+click on the VM and select make alias.(The keyboard
shortcut
for it is command+L)
13. Now that the alias is created drag and drop the alias in the
virtual pc list
folder.
14. Completly log out of the admistrator account (do not use fast user
switching to
go between this account and the other accounts on the Mac)

All other users

Virtual pc will already be installed on all other users after the first

installation on the administrator account so no setup is required.
Virtual pc will be located in the applications folder
To allow all other users to use the same guest operating system as the
administrator account we need to make an alias and place it in the
virtual pc
list
1. Log into the next user account
2. Navagate to the shared folder(Harddisk->users->shared
3. The original VM will be listed there and you will have permissions
to access
it
4. Make an alias of the original, same as before(Highlight the VM,
Ctrl+Click on it
and select make alias)
5. Drag and drop the alias into the virtual pc
list(harddisk->users->user you are
working with->documents->virtual pc list

You will now be able to access the same virtual machine from two
separate user accounts.
For more than 2 users just repeat steps for all other users.
