I just bought a new iMac G5 (2GHZ). I also just bought VCP 7.0.
Unfortunately I am unable to install it. When I first tried it gave me
some errors upon restart, then the program kept crashing when I tried
to open it.

I installed the VCP 7.0.2. upgrade, but VCP continues to crash each
time I attempt to open it. Is VCP 7.0.2 compatible with Mac OS 10.4.5?
Any suggestions on how to fix this and get VCP to work?

Could you be a little more specific? What do you mean 'continues to
crash'? What are the error messages?

Every time I try to open VPC 7.0.2 I get:

The application Virual PC quit unexpectedly

Mac OS X and other applications are not affected

Click reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more
details or send a report to apple.

try this:

check to see if Virtual PC is listed in Applications. If so, download
and update VPC to 7.0.2 from the mactopia.com website. Then launch VPC.

BTW: you cannot upgrade to 7.0.2 while VPC is running. You must quit
the application first.

I have just bought the same imac G5 and had the same problem with
Virtual PC ver. 7. even when upgraded to 7.02. It seems as if Virtual
PC does not work on the new Intel based imac. By the way, it deletes my
wireless set up every time I try to install it.

I bought office for mac as well, and that gave no problems.

Any ideas?

Do you have a G5 iMac or an Intel iMac?  They are not the same.

VPC does not work on an Intel iMac.  MS has stated as much.

Q. What does the announcement about Intel-based Macs mean for Virtual
PC for Mac?

A. Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 is still the best emulation solution
for users who have PowerPC-based Macs, but it does not run on
Intel-based Macs. We are working with Apple to determine the
feasibility of developing Virtual PC for Mac for Intel-based Macs.
Virtual PC for Mac is highly dependent on the operating system and
hardware and will require additional development to run on Intel-based
Macs.

Ahhh.  You LEFT OUT the key bit of info "Intel-based iMac".  Microsoft
hasn't announce when they'll support this model with VPC, so you have no
option at this point but to buy a cheap PC.  There's nothing currently
available that will emulate a PC on the new Mactel systems.  Sorry.

DeeDee, don't press that button!  DeeDee!  NO!  Dee...

Aaahhhh Thanks. My new iMac is the Intel Mac not the G5. Thus the
problem. Fortunately I should be able to use one of my older Macs and
see if that works for what I need VCP for.
