shared networking problems

I installed VPC7 on a G5 running MacOS X Server 10.4.3, copied a VPC6
virtual machine from another mac, converted it to VPC7 and started it
up.  OK so far.  But shared networking is broken.  The interface
receives info via DHCP, but it can't reach the DNS server.  VPC creates

and bridges the subnet 192.168.131 on my internal 10.0.1 network.  From

WindowsXP I can ping all nodes by IP - except the DNS server.

I installed VPC7 on that other mac, re-copied the new virtual machine,
and ... drumroll ... it works fine, including DNS!

My G5 has two ethernet interfaces and my real aim is to use the virtual

switch "feature" on the extra one.  But, of course, it's broken and
will be fixed "soon".

Any suggestion on how to get shared networking going?  Thanks.

Where ya been? "Soon" has come and gone months ago. Update to VPC 7.0.2
at the mactopia website.

As for the DNS issue.....add a DNS server address in the TCP/IP
properties  window of your virtual machine. I use 4.2.2.2 (Yahoo's
public DNS server) and it works fine.

OK, I updated to 7.0.2 but have not yet tried virtual switch.  Still no
connection using the DHCP supplied DNS server.  I changed it to
4.2.2.2, still no go.

Obviously I don't spend enough time lurking here.  I didn't even know
that Connectix had been swallowed by Micro$oft before I started looking
for help on networking.

Anyhow, virtual switch does indeed work with 7.0.2, even with my own
DNS server.

Anyhow part 2, I still wonder why shared networking doesn't work for me.
Paul Power - 29 Dec 2005 23:34 GMT
With 'some' connections, Shared Networking just will not work whereas
Virtual Switch does. Same is true for vice-versa

I do believe it may have something to do with the settings on the Mac
side, but I'm just not sure what setting is causing it.
