I am considering buying an i-mate K Jam WM 5 mobile phone and need to know
if I will be able to sync Outlook with it?

Cheers.

Well, is it a USB 2.0 device?  Does it connect with Apple's iSync (I
don't see it):

http://www.apple.com/support/isync/

My guess would be to buy VPC and it doesn't work, return it for a
refund.  Be aware that support for many USB devices is spotty at best.

Robin,

If your goal is to have your K Jam sync with Outlook, then you will not be
able to get that to work as far as I can tell.  Other than Activesync, I
know of no tools that allow synchronization directly with Outlook.  I
currently have an i-mate Jasjar, which also uses WM5, synchronizing directly
to my company's exchange server.  I cannot get it to work with Activesync in
VPC either.

The other tools that I was using to natively have my PocketPC devices
connect directly to my Mac OS X software need updates to support WM5.  Those
products are Missingsync for PocketPC and Pocketmac.

The only thing that I cannot sync from the Exchange server are my tasks.
The bad news for me is that I use tasks like crazy.  As a substitute, I have
been creating calendar events for all my tasks that are time sensitive.

Both Missingsync and Pocketmac state that they will have updates soon to
address this issue.  My greatest problem is installing new applications on
the device.  Unless the supplier gives a native CAB file with the purchase,
I have to connect my Jasjar to a native Intel based Windows platform running
Activesync 4.x to install an application.  This is a real pain; however,
many software manufacturers are now offering the CAB files for Mac users
like you and I.  The Handango site offers many of the PocketPC applications
in CAB download format.

I hope this helps...

Oh bugger.

I thought I saw a posting that said ActiveSync 4.1 WOULD work on VPC!!!!!!!

What is the problem?

3.8 works fine for me with my PDA2K?

Cheers.

Robin,

I actually spoke mistakenly.  I do have Activesync 4 working on VPC.  The
issue is that my WM5 device will not work on VPC.  If I sync my Motorola
MPX200, I have no problems with Activesync 4 running on VPC.  The problems
seems to be specific to WM5 devices.

Thanks,
Jules

Well I was hoping I might get lucky but............

I have installed AS 4.1 on both VPC and a real XP Pro IBM Laptop.

The KJAM is not recognised on EITHER!!!!!!

My old PDA2K DOES work fine on either.

Currently I am buggered........
