A client of ours is using an Epson Stylus Photo RX600 printer on Virtual PC v6.0 build #3140 running XP Pro (SP2) on a MAC (OSX v10.3.9). Originally, the printer was not being recognized under Start/Printers&Faxes, so we installed the Epson driver for this printer manually. The printer is now setup as the default printer and it maintains a "ready" status under Start/Printers&Faxes. The RX600 icon also appears just fine in the system tray. However, the printer will absolutely not print anything (i.e. Word, command prompt, internet, etc). When we select print test page under printer preferences, the job spools, is sent to the printer, the MAC spool window appears, but then VPC errors out with the following message: "Your print job has been cancelled because the Virtual Printer encountered a problem. Your PC may be using a printer driver that is too new for the virtual..." We even tried printing from the command prompt with the following "ECHO HELLO CTRL L DIR > lpt1", which again spools to the printer but then the job just disapears without printing. The Windows XP Control settings for USB devices are as follows: Enable USB = checked, USB Device from Apple Computer = unchecked, USB2.0 HFP = unchecked. The Start/Printers&Faxes preference settings for this printer are Port = lpt1. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Follow the steps in the kb article below. When choosing the printer driver, be sure to select the Epson AP3260 ESC/P2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824366/en-us Paul, Deleted all printers in P&F, and then proceeded to install Epson printer using AP3260 ESC/P2 as advised. Only performed steps under "Method 1: Configure Emulated Printing in Windows (Install the Macintosh Printer (Inkjet) Driver)". Did not perform any other steps. Under Virtual PC's Windows XP Settings, under Current Settings, under USB, the only item which has a checkmark is the "Enable USB" (none of the other 4 boxes below that are checked). The Epson printer appears under P&F, however it does not indicate ready, and when sending a test page to the printer, the job fails (communication error indicated). Are we still missing a step or two here (believe that you advised following Method 1 & that's all we did)? Require more of your expertise. Thank you. When choosing the printer > driver, be sure to select the Epson AP3260 ESC/P2 > > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824366/en-us In PC Settings, make sure that Printing is set to 'Default Mac Printer' On the Mac side, make sure the printer is set as the Default printer and clear the Print Queue. Then try printing from Windows ( be VERY patient. It could take up to 2 minutes the first time it prints) If you still get the communications error, make sure you can still print on the Mac side. That's usually an indication that there is something amiss on the Mac side OR you may have a faulty USB cable |
