I installed Tiger 10.4.3 and added VPC 7.02 with Windows XP Pro on an iBook
G3. This was not an upgrade but a fresh install. This system worked well
for a few days when suddenly the Current Settings panel for VPC reported
that VPC could not locate Drive 1. When I tried to select the Hard Drive
Document I found the this document grayed out. The Settings panel reports
that "There was a problem verifying the drive."
Does anyone know how to fix this problem so that I can select the drive
document in the Current Settings Panel without re-installing VPC again.
Also, does anyone know how to move the virtual Hard Drive Document to
another mac computer and have VP work? It would be very useful to be able to
build a VPC solution on one Mac and transfer it to another.

Could Diskwarrior 3.0.3 have fouled up something on the drive such as the
boot block so that VPC could not recognize the drive as an operating system?

I am experiencing the same problem today for the first time with VPC
6.1.1. Tried seeking out a backup file but so far that's no help.
Also tried the info at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825413/ but
couldn't find the 1st hard drive there either. Anyone have any
suggestions?

VPC looks for a virtual machine (or an alias to it's current location)
in the Virtual PC List folder which resides in your Documents folder.
If it does not find it, it will report the type of message that you're
receiving. Make sure that your vm is there or create an alias.
To move Windows to another machine, simply burn it to a DVD or firewire
the 2 machines together and copy the vm over. However, you do know that
you need two licenses for VPC and two for Windows if you want them to
work, right?

If only the solution was that simple!! Yes, I am aware that an alias is
required in Virtual PC List Folder in Documents Folder which points to the
disk documents in /users/"logon name"/virtual PC folder. However, both the
alias and the disk document is "grayed out" when I try to select them from
the VPC Settings Panel.
Yes I tried copying the files from one Mac to another using ethernet but the
copied VPC would not recognise the moved disk documents which had been
transferred across. It demanded that the original mac's file were available
in order to work. In other words, the second mac had to be networked to the
first, and the second VPC used the disk documents located on the original
mac. (I am aware of licensing issues.)
When I reviewed the PC Virtual PC newsgroup it seemed apparent that a VPC
built on one Windows PC can be transferred satisfactorily to another Windows
PC. However, I can't make this work on a Mac.
