Keep in mind that you must still have your network setup in VPC. I
have mine setup to pull an IP address automaticlly from my DHCP server
(part of my router/firewall). One note to this, if you have your mac
directly attached to the Cable Modem then the cable modem obviously
would only allow the one ip address (i.e., your mac.).
I also do not recommend direct connect for security reasons. You
should always put a router/firewall between your machine and your cable
modem as most of the time, you cant be sure that your ISP is really
protecting you from intruders. (It also provides a second line of
defense if they are).
I have had absolutely no issues once I set up the network in VPC so my
suggestion would be to go to that point first.
Cheers

I am having about the same problem. iBook G4, 768M RAM, OS 10.3.9, VPC
7.0.2. I have followed what VPC Help suggests and checked the "Obtain
IP address automatically" box in the Network Connections Control Panel
for a Local Area Network connection, and have VPC in Shared Networking
Mode. Windows shows this LAN connection seemingly fine at a steady 10.0
MBPS, but Internet Explorer can't connect to anything at all. I suspect
I need to do some more work somewhere in the maze of Windows
sub-programs?

You have a DNS problem.
Go to the Control Panel and open Network Connections. Double-click on
Local Area Network and then click on Properties. Double-click on
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Select 'Use the following DNS server
addresses and put 4.2.2.2 in the preferred DNS server box. Leave the
alternate blank. 4.2.2.2 is the public DNS server for
yahoo.com.....that 'should' work for you.

I had been able to connect just fine about six months ago
but hadn't needed connectivity on the Windows side
since then. THANK YOU!
