I have a new powerbook g4 running OSX. I would like to access the
powerbook modem from within virtual PC, which I can't even though the
network settings have this activated etc.
I have tested the modem ok through OSX and all ok.
The reason... I am using outlook for PC and would like the outlook
version to get access to the web through dialup when on the road.
thanks in advance

Follow the steps in the MS article below:

Paul thanks for that. Yes I tried all the Microsoft options. Even
though I have checked the settings within the virtual preferences re
the coms port and what MS say's I then get the following message when
in the diagnostics area of testing 'querying' the modem... The modem
failed to respond...... verify that the interrupt for the port is
properly set" This last part about the interrupt throws me as I am not
sure what that would be???

Have you selected a Standard 33600 modem and attached it to COM1 port?
are not actually using a Windows Com port (it's a VPC com port), ignore
that message.

Yes. Did that and understand the issue around vpc etc. Why 33.6k? When
I tried 33.6k still the same problem. In chatting to others about this
problem they have suggested trying the windows driver update. However,
this did not seem to change anything. I have been trying to find out
what type of modem apple uses and it only shows its own name. And that
being a v.90 modem.
Hmmm work in progress...

I suggest a 33.6 modem as the 56k modem sometimes streams too fast for
the emulator.
A question for you.......why not just use a connection on the Mac side
and use Shared Networking in VPC?
You can configure Outlook to use an existing connection so that it's
not looking for a dialup connection, you know that, right?

Paul, Yes good idea I have just been thinking of that recently. That
is. the g4 is on an internal network alrea (cable) etc which can
already access the internet fine through both the apple mac side and
the virtual side with no issues at all.
So I will do a test dialing up through the modem on the mac side and
test that through Outlook in virtual mode and see if it picks it up. No
reason it shouldn't really.
Thanks for that
I will let you know how I go
