I usually keep a backup of my Home folder on an external hard drive.
Can I keep a back up of my VM (ie: home/documents/virtual pc list) on
my external as well?

Thanks

YES.....and it's a really good idea to do so.

So the back up I keep can effectively replace the one on my HD if
anything should go wrong with it?

Yes - this is highly recommended, especially once you have all your
Windows apps installed and configured. See also these tips about
creating a virtual drive for data:

Michael Paine,
I don't have any windows apps installed or store any data there either.
I only use it to test websites under a windows platform. But thanks for
that link it has some very useful information.
