The upgrader does not need the previous version to be installed. Save
your current VPC disk image, and then import that into VPC 7 after you
have installed it. It should work just fine.
The disk image may not run in an upgraded VPC application with a
different language pack. You may have to convert the virtual machine to
English as well.

Your first sentence probably answered another question I had - how to
do the upgrade. At present I have VPC 5 running on my G3 Powerbook. VPC
5 does however not run on my new iMac G5. If I understand you right, I
may just install VPC 7 on my iMac G5 using the VPC 5 Serial Number ?

No........you will need to use the VPC7 product key to install.
VPC5 and VPC6 will not run on a G5.
You can, however, install VPC5 to get the virtual machine onto your
hard drive. You would then import it into VPC7.
If you're having trouble with this you CAN call MS VPC tech support.
Installation and upgrade issues are free.
