Does Xara X1 check the speed of the system (e.g. does it do something to
check that you're running on a Pentium of a specific speed)?
If that's the case, what does the vendor of Xara say about you running
on VPC? Will they support it (and take out any code that relies on
checking the processor, which may be your problem)? Of not, I guess
you're SOL.

Their support team said it didn't but they also said they couldn't
figure out why it wouldn't work. :(

You might try running the app after toggling compatibility mode via the
script menu (VPC preferences to enable that). If their application
relies on self-modifying code, that could help. Toggle it again when
you're done, as it does slow things down.

Thank you for the suggestion, I did try it and same result. I just
heard back from their support who said they get it to work fine in VPC.
???? I am at a loss.

Well!!! I went onto the Microsoft support newsgroups and found some
tips on improving performance of Virtual PC's. I followed all the
instructions (although some settings were already set the way they
reccomended) and now Xara will start up. It takes a while to first get
going, but once it starts up - it runs okay.
Thanks for all your tips, replies and assistance.
