I can't get virtual pc 7.0 to recognize the built-in modem on a 15"
powerbook G4. Any solutions?

You will need to manually configure the modem, it won't autodetect
since its a Mac modem.

If you search the newsgroup, there should be several threads on this
with replies from Unseelie with the necessary steps to configure.

Unless you are using some program that very specifically requires you
to use a modem directly from Windows, I would suggest that you use
Shared Networking (the default setting), connect on the Mac side first
and then open Virtual PC. It will automatically be connected to the
Internet (under 'normal' circumstances)

I do have the same problem. It's quite anoying to be able to connect to the
Mac modem on my PowerBook via HyperTerminal using the direct COM1 port
without any problems while using ANY of the scripts provided with Win2000
there's no connection whatsoever :-( When manually dialing my desired phone
number the ATDT command directly on the COM-port I get the desired modem tone
but.... using the Standard 56000 bps V.90 driver nothing happens. It just
times out. And the PC software I use must connect through a proper modem
connection.

Any ideas?

Follow the steps outlined in the kb article below. Be SURE to select a
Standard 33600 modem.

Thanks for your response. Actually doping exactly the opposite solved
my problem. UNCHECKING the modem check box in VPC PC-settings made my
day.I think the problem is that the V90-driver in Win2K expects to talk
directly to a modem but when the modem check box is checked it will
actually talk to another modem driver. Unchecking the box short cuts
the communication between the Win2K driver and the modem :-)
