Installation Dilemma

I own VPC 5.0 with Windows 2000 Pro on CDs and VPC 6.1.1 via paid
downloaded upgrades, installed only on a backup drive, because the
original installation was on an iMacSE whose drive failed beyond
retrieval. I purchased VPC 7 upgrade to install on my G5 iMac running
Tiger and though I have been able to upgrade the version 6 on the
external drive it will only run with the external drive on. I believe
the firewire link slows VPC 7 even more than usual and I don't need
that drive running all the time. I've tried copying the virtual machine
from the VPC list onto the G5's drive but it becomes greyed out when I
try to create it on the G5 in VPC 7. I tried installing VPC 5 from the
CDs but I couldn't upgrade them on the G5 because version 5 won't run
on it.

Does anyone have nay ideas how I might establish the version 7 upgrade
to my version 6.1.1 on the G5 iMac independent of the external drive?

As an aside, I attempted to get a version 6 CD to replace my downloaded
version 6 upgrade from Microsoft's replacement service thinking that
might facilitate the upgrade. I faxed all the Connectix purchase
information and ID numbers and received a call this morning telling me
I had to deal with an "OEM" service which I was transferred to and
promptly disconnected from. Seems when Microsoft acquires something
like Conecctix's VPC they  sever all responsibility for the acquiree's
previous cusstomers.

1. Install VPC 7 and update it as necessary
2. Copy your Windows from your external drive to a location on the
drive you want
3. Import Windows into VPC7.

There is also this PDF I wrote and posted on my website a while ago:

If you were disconnected, did you try to call back?  I don't see how
one disconnection means you will not get any help from MS.
