I tried to install VPC7 XP pro (3 CD included) on my G5 dual 2,5 GHz (4
GB RAM, 10.3.9)
.first step OK => reboot, continue on the first CD, ask the second CD :
fine. Then, arrives the third step : configuration of Windows.
It asks me to "start windows", and I obtain a black window, and nothing
happens. If I look at the list, I see XP pro active, but Windows doen't
start.

I've done 3 time the install (unisntalling twice) with the same result
each time.
As there's nothing in the doc, I assume it should be automatic

You can't exactly install your own VM with Windows using the discs that
come with VPC.

Make sure that the first VPC disc is mounted on the Mac, and then
select the 'Install from Virtual PC for Mac CD' option when you click
on new.

You shouldn't need the 3rd CD under normal circumstances. All of this
is detailed in the manual on pages 25 - 27 and the dialogs that pop up
during the initial install say this as well.

You can with a slight modification of the XP CD (via an ISO image) and
the XP boot disks.  I've done it

The problem here, though, may be related to the dual processors and 4GB
of RAM.

Try this:

Shut down VPC. Go to www.mactopia.com and download and install the
update to VPC 7.0.1  Then install Windows.

But Windows isn't even on the CDs... just the VPC drive image. How?

With the VPC CDs at that point.

The Virtual PC application installs in 3 stages:
1. installs the application
2. registers VPC
3. creates the VM

He's having difficulty with Step 3. Install the upgrade to 7.0.1, then
go thru Step 3. It does work.

But all the necessary files are located on the Windows system file.

If you want the details, see the PDF at my site
