Hi There...

...we switched from windows-pc to mac....and are running some old
applications on VPC and Win98.....this apps are using the hostid of the
network device to identify the software license...the problem is, that the
companies are'nt existing anymore to get a new license file for the apps...
question: ...is it possible to change the hostid of VPC manually ??? (i've
got the idea when i  saw, that the mac osx hostid i found was different to
the displayed hostid in win98)...

....thanx in advance...

You can do this. As long as you don't need networking to work.

Open up Network properties, Local Area Network Connection -> Properties.
Then click on CONFIGURE under the Ethernet Adapter. Select the Advanced
Tab, click on Network Address, and put in the one you want.

For whatever reason, this breaks communicating to other Virtual
Machines, the Internet, and any other real machines.

But! It does work for HostID lookups!
