Ibook 1ghz/512 Mac OS 10.3.7
Imac DV 400/256 Mac OS 9.2.2

In the beginning I was able to connect to the internet. The connectivity
problem started after I updated my version of WindowsXP. Luckily I had a
backup of the prior WindowsXP that wasn't updated and that did allow me to
connect to the internet until recently.

I recently got a new ibook and tried to upgrade as I did above. It was able
to connect to the internet and access service pack 2 and upgrade. After that
was done I found that I couldn't connect to the internet.

VPC was swt to Shared Networking which worked fine until the upgrade. The
odd thing is I noticed on Network Connections details that the IP address
was almost the same as my own IP address except for the last two sets of
numbers where incorrect.

My airport IP: 000.000.0.06
VPC 6.1 IP : 000.000.131.65

I have tried using virtual switch and though it gives me the same as my
airport:

My airport IP: 000.000.0.06
VPC 6.1 IP : 000.000.0.06

It still cannot access the internet.

I have also followed both Microsoft links:

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;867514&spid=2958&sid=global
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825372

None of these have worked so I am still puzzled.

This connectivity problem (wrong IP address) has also happened on one of my
old 5300 Powerbook when I upgraded its system to 9.1. It too had the wrong
IP address and even when I manually set the IP it still didn't have
connectivity.

Did you blank out the first 2 octets of the IPs?  000.000.x.x is an
invalid IP address and won't work.

Also, you can't have the Airport IP and the one in VPC set to the same
number.  IP addresses need to be unique.

How are you getting IP addresses?  From a DHCP server?  Are you
connecting directly to the Internet and need assign IPs from your ISP?
