By default, the MTU settings for Windows is 1500.
However, your ISP may be using something smaller if they use a PPPoE
connection. Take a look at the link below:

I had tried adjusted the MTU in windows, I'm connect my iBook to cable
broadband connection(throught ethernet). The maximum size of packets
can go through ping is 1213. I'm doing ping www.yahoo.com -l 1213 -f,
size above 1213 need to be fragmented. However, no matter how I adjust
the MTU, the fragmented packets cannot able to go through(is not send
out) from the Virtual Machine on Virtual PC under Shared Networking
Mode.
