VPC 7 for Mac running Windows 95... problem accessing the internet

After what could only be described as a mighty stuggle, I managed to
install my version of Windows 95 on Virtual PC 7.0.1 for Mac (the
mighty struggle included having to use a Windows 98 bootdisk image to
access DOS on VPC to then access the Windows 95 CD to then run the OS
set up program) but now after another mighty struggle, I seem to keep
failing at trying to access the internet from it.

Originally on the machine I'm running VPC on (Powerbook G4, 1.5 GHz,
512MB RAM) I had it set up to access my cable internet through a
wireless network I've set up at home and the machine's internal airport
card.

When I installed VPC and Windows 95, my immediate problem became
accessing the internet from inside Windows 95 so chalked it up to the
fact that my machine was using it's airport and maybe the VPC wouldn't
recognize it so I hard-wired it... now my machine is connected to the
internet through it's ethernet port.

The problem persists though in Windows 95 and I have configured
everything (at least I think I have) to pick up an IP address
automatically. I may not be the most knowledgeable about computers but
I've been dealing with PCs for 10 years and I know a bit more than the
average "turn on, check e-mail, turn off" user so it frustrates me that
I haven't been able to resolve this. So I humbly turn to you for aid.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million in advance.

Frustrated and in major need of some sleep (I've been struggling with
VPC during sleepless nights for about a week now).

A few more things about my situation:

1. Internet connection sharing is enabled.
2. The VPC can see the Mac and access the Mac's hard drive.
3. The firewall has been disabled.

I should also mention I have followed every single step that is in
here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825372
and still have nothing.

It's a handy article though. Everyone should give a read because I'm
sure it'd fix a lot of people's connection problems... not mine though.

Let me take a Wiiiiild guess here...

You were unable to install the VPC Additions to Windows 95??

Without the VPC Additions, you have no shared networking.

So now you need Virtual Switched Networking in VPC.

With Virtual Switched networking, you need a DHCP server somewhere to assign
an IP address and DNS servers.  If you have a wireless base station that
provides a DHCP server, that will work.  If your base station cannot do
DHCP, you will have to obtain and insert the IP address manually.

Basically, it has nothing to do with your wireless connection.  You are
reading this through a wireless connection from my G4 iBook.  VPC simply
emulates a piece of wire to the Mac.  The Mac is supposed to establish the
internet connection, but because your VPC additions are not installed, you
do not have the emulated piece of wire.

I can guarantee you that I would be down at my local shop tomorrow spending
$50.00 on a copy of Windows XP Home for that machine.  Create a new Virtual
PC, let it start, offer it the Windows XP CD ROM and it will take over from
there and everything will work when you have finished :-)

Or -- you could spend the next few weeks futzing around, and THEN spend your
money :-)

Cheers
