Is it possible to use Remote Assistance from a Windows XP Home computer to
assist a user on a MAC running RDC? Or is there an alternative that would
allow for similar capability?

Thanks

There is a free option. Try using VNC.
You can try installing OSXvnc on the Mac. Make sure you open the VNC
port in the MacOS X firewall of course.
You'll need a VNC client for Windows though (there are plenty).
