I know this question has come up many times and I thought I'd share my
Successful experience. You can print to USB printers directly
connected to your Mac via RDC. The trick is to make RCD think it is
printing to a postscript printer. I have successfully done this to a
number of different HP printers ( I have not been successful with the
Epson's I have tried).

1. download and install the hpijs printer drivers from
www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/
2. download and install ghostscript from
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
(from my experience you need to do this even if you are running
Panther)
3. reboot -- you might not need to but my printer didn't show up until
I did
4. open print center and click add printer holding down the option key
5. Within the setup sheet, choose Advanced from the top popup;
6. then  in the Device: popup select your printer by name (it should
be the last  item in the menu list - if not reboot and see if it shows
up).
7. Finally, select the correct PPD from the model  browser and click
Add.

The next time you log into RDC you should see your HP printer.

NOTE: the standard CUPS drivers do not work. The hpijs drivers do work
because they are add-on printer drivers for Ghostscript.

Hi Barclay!

That's great news! Can you list a few of the HP models that you've had
success with?

Thanx! bill

Hi Bill,

The last HP I set up was an OfficeJet 6110 - I use this in my home
office. I also set up another OfficeJet for another telecomuter, but,
don't recall the model number.

Hope this helps.
