Finally got Remote Desktop Connection working. But when I login to the
PC from the Mac, it closes down the user on the PC screen and only
gives me full control, whilst the PC user goes back to his login
screen on his display. Is it possible to simply view what's happening
on the PC from the Mac - as you can with Apple Remote Desktop, or take
control on the PC, but still show who ever is sitting at the PC can
sdee what you are doing.

It's a really handy to tool that I use a lot for Mac to Mac with ARD,
for range of uses. It would be great to have this Mac to PC too.

Thanks

Hi Phil!

No, that's not possible. RDC is for remote -logins- and not for remote
-control-. Only one user of a workstation, such as Windows XP
Professional, is able to use the workstation at a time. While one person
is logged in then others will be logged out regardless of whether or not
the user is at the keyboard of the machine or connecting across the
network.

Hope this helps! bill

Bill,

Thanks for the response. Not the answer I really wanted, but at least
I know!!! (it will save me pluggin on for hours!). Are there any
products that allow me to share or observe a PC from a Mac, like ARD
does?

Thanks in advance.

VNC allows remote control-- in fact, it's the same protocol that ARD
uses for observe/control-- and you can control it using the same Remote
Desktop admin application you use to control your Mac clients.

Alternately, I believe you can use the Remote Assistance capability of
Remote Desktop to allow a client computer to ask for assistance, at
which point you can share their console session using Remote Desktop
Connection. but if you already have an ARD infrastructure set up, VNC
is probably your best bet.

A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in
human history with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila.

Dave,

Thanks for the info. Can I get VNC to hook up to my ARD on the Mac?

Hi Phil!

ARD can connect to a VNC server running on a Windows machine or any
other platform.

Hope this helps! bill
