rdc not connecting to a pc runing wndows xp pro

i am using mac os 10.3.9 running the latest remote desktop client from
microsoft but everytime i try and set it up to connect to my moms work
computer ii get this message The client could not connect to the remote
computer. Either remote
connections are not enabled, the maximum number of connections was
exceeded, or a network error occurred. Try connecting again later or
contact your administrator.

now she is running windows xp pro not sure of the sp. windows xp has
been setup as mircosoft sates. but doesnt work i try it with and with
out th password i try to versions of the domain spelling but nothing so
i loaded up an older hp p3 laptop with windows 200 sp4 and tryed
connecting to it and gt basicly the same message i have seen some posts
before but they did not tell me how to fix it and when they did give
any info they talked about checking terminal stuff on the xp witch cant
be done. so i need to know what to do with out having to check in the
terminal? thanks in advance

If you haven't already, have a look at this page on Microsoft's site
<http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/getstarted/remoteintro
.mspx> for information to set up RDC.

Be sure that you DO use a password. For security reasons RDC will not
allow you to log in with an account that has no password. Regardless,
you should at least see a login screen unless you've pre-entered your
login information into the RDC client. For troubleshooting purposes
erase everything before connecting so that you'll be prompted to enter
it during the connection.
