Reading data from pdf

I am interested in obtaining text from pdf's. If this is not possible,
how can one fill pdf forms or read text from pdf forms? Can somebody
shed some light in where can I find information about this?

I saw a truck today that had "AAA Batteries / Delivered and Installed" on the
side. My first thought was: That's a really weird business model. How many
inept people have urgent need of skinny little battery cells?
